Fabric

Here is the fabric i am using for my dress.

In the first picture the red is more true to the color.  In the second picture the blue is more true to the real color.
I just need to finish up sewing the organza to the fashion fabric.  I have most of the dress done, just the skirt pieces are left.  Hopefully I will get them done today. Then sew the dress up, do one more fitting and if everything is good I can just sew up the dress.  It looks as if I will be done by next week.  This makes me very happy. Hopefully everything goes as planned.

Bitten by the sewing bug.

I had signed up to take the Sew Retro Perfect Bombshell Dress class with Gretchen Hirsch.  I haven't made the dress yet. Actually I signed up more for the learning tips then for the dress itself.  I did the same for the class The Couture Dress taught by Susan Khalje. You can head on over to craftsy and check out these classes.  Even though I have been sewing since my teen years, I still have lots to learn.  Both of these classes have taught me so much, I am glad I took them.

After watching both of them and Project Runway All Stars I can say that the sewing bug has bitten me..
I went into NYC on Wednesday and bought wax tracing paper( both classes spoke about it).  I got 2 sheets one red and one blue.  They are large( not sure how big) I haven't measured them yet.  They are much larger then the non-wax ones you find nowadays.  These should last me a long time.  I got them at SIL Thread 257 West 38th Street, New York, NYC.  I also stopped over at Pacific Trimmings 218 W. 38th Street, New York, NYC and noticed that they also carry the waxed paper.  I refrained from going into MOOD and went into Spandex world.  Their prices are pretty decent.  I bought some nice cotton knit fabric.

This picture does no justice to the colors of the fabric.
The bottom fabric is a nice rust color and the fabric on top is a mustard yellow.  Beautiful colors.

Now all I need is a dress  form.  After trying to make a dress for myself I realized how important it is to have one of these.  Trying to adjust fittings etc.. while the fabric is on you is not easy.  I want to try and make a duct tape dress form.  Hopefully I can find some time tomorrow to do it.  I will post pics if I am able to.  There are plenty of videos on YouTube that show how to make one of these.

Miss-B's dress FINALLY done.

I don't know why but for some reason this dress gave me tons of problems.  It's not the first time I've made it either.  The top part, and the collar were just not cooperating at all with me.  I am just glad it is finished, well I still need to hem it but other then that it is DONE.
The pattern for this dress is posted here

Here is the dress.

She choose the fabric for this dress.  She likes it and that is all that matters, since she is very picky.

New Dress

My dd was invited to a birthday costume party.  So this means i get to sew her a dress, YAYYYYYY.
She wants to go as a Geisha, so I am making her a dress out of Asian fabric.  Its a fitted dress, the pattern is from Burdastyle. Its called The Fatina, I'm doing the version that has the Asian style collar.  I will definately post up picks as soon as I have the dress done.  Its basically done I just want her to try it on and see if i need to make adjustments to it.

Yayyyyyyyy Fabrics are all here

I just received my last package of fabric in the mail.  I can finally start on my swaps.  I can't wait. Here are some pictures of my fabrics.

These are all Chez Ami fabrics.

These are from fabric.com and banberry place.

Off to sew.

Sewing Table of my own

Looking at the sewing table in my previous post made me really want one.  Even if it didn't look like it. I decided that if I were going to get any type of sewing done I would need a sewing table, even if it were a small one. Taking my sewing machine in and out of the box it was in was becoming to much work.  Lets not include having to put it on the dinner table or having to put everything away when we needed the table.  I needed a place where I could leave my machine with fabric pieces and all when it was not in use.  So I went into my basement and brought up a small desk we had down there.  It fit perfectly in my room, with enough space for my sewing machine and other stuff.  On the shelves I put my Ottobre mags, and under it I have some of my boxes with fabric.  I love my small table and am very happy with it.  Since having my table I have managed to almost finish my ddJ 1st birthday dress.( Lets remember that I have 7 kids here as much as I would love it I cant spend the day sewing)  Here is a picture of my table.
